Portfolio Description

Echo Newsroom is an AI newsroom platform we designed and built: an operating system for a news organisation, in which the research, the writing, the artwork, the video and the distribution are handled by coordinated AI agents rather than by separate teams and separate tools.

It exists because the economics of a small newsroom no longer work. A publisher that wants to cover a beat properly needs a researcher, a writer, a sub-editor, a designer, a video editor and a social manager - and almost no independent outlet can carry six salaries. Echo Newsroom compresses that pipeline so that one editor, working in one system, can run the output of a full desk while keeping the editorial judgement where it belongs: with the person.

What the platform does

Echo Newsroom is built as an ERP for a news organisation rather than as a writing tool bolted onto a CMS. Every stage of production is a first-class part of the same system, so a story moves from a source document to a published package without leaving it.

  • Research agents that monitor sources, gather and cross-reference material, and assemble a briefed, cited starting point instead of a blank page.
  • Content generation agents that draft to a defined house style and adapt one story into the different lengths and registers each channel needs.
  • A graphic design agent that produces the article artwork, social cards and data graphics in the publication's own visual identity.
  • Video generation for news packages, with AI-composed design and motion graphics, so a written story becomes a watchable one without an edit suite.
  • One-click publishing to every social channel at once, with each post shaped for the platform it lands on rather than cross-posted identically.
  • A single editorial workspace over all of it, so commissioning, review, approval and scheduling stay in one place with a human sign-off at the end.

Why it is built differently

Everything else on the market is one slice of this. Some tools generate and schedule social posts across many networks. Others turn a finished article into short-form video. Newsrooms with real engineering budgets have built pieces of it internally - the Associated Press has trialled an agent that assembles broadcast rundowns, and Schibsted built an article-to-video system for its own titles - but those are internal tools, not products anyone else can buy.

Meanwhile the phrase "newsroom software" has been taken over almost entirely by press-release hosting for corporate communications teams, which is a different job for a different buyer.

So the gap Echo Newsroom fills is a real one: research, design, video and distribution as one product, sold to the people actually producing journalism.

In production

Echo Newsroom runs Aksion.ET, a financial news and market-intelligence publication covering the Ethiopian capital market - a demanding first deployment, because financial coverage has to be fast, has to be accurate, and has to keep publishing on a schedule that does not slip.
